Section 2: Terms of Service for Clients and Adopting Families
Mission
Scarlett’s Plan supports seniors and individuals with terminal diagnoses who need help finding new homes for their pets. Our role is to help coordinate a safe and thoughtful rehoming process with the help of trained volunteers.
Service Area
Scarlett’s Plan operates virtually across the United States. We do not maintain a physical office or facility and offer our services exclusively online.
Client Eligibility Requirements
To use our rehoming service, clients must meet the following criteria:
The client and the animal must be located within the United States.
The client must either be a senior citizen or have a terminal medical diagnosis.
The animal must be owned by the client or the client must have legal authority to make decisions for the pet (e.g., power of attorney).
The reason for rehoming must be health-related, such as moving to assisted living or a decline in health.
The client must provide housing for the pet until adoption.
The animal must be spayed or neutered before being listed for adoption.
We reserve the right to update or modify these criteria as needed and to make exceptions at our discretion.
Service Limitations and Declining Applications
Scarlett’s Plan retains the right to decline service to any client or adopting family, including but not limited to situations involving:
Misrepresentation of facts
Inadequate resources (e.g., volunteers, time, funding)
Safety concerns or inappropriate behavior, including harassment, threats, or bullying
Evidence that the client does not have the best interests of the animal in mind
Communication Process
Initial applications must be submitted through our online form by the client. Our team will then reach out via phone or email to schedule an interview. After this, we’ll assess whether the applicant meets our criteria and whether we are able to offer support.
Accessibility
We primarily communicate by email and phone, but we are happy to accommodate other methods of communication to ensure equal access to our services.
Housing and Transportation
Scarlett’s Plan does not provide shelter or temporary housing for pets. The pet will remain with the client throughout the rehoming process. We also do not provide transportation services; it is the responsibility of the client and the adopting family to arrange transportation and cover any related costs.
Volunteer Role
Each client will be paired with a Scarlett’s Plan volunteer to help coordinate the adoption. While we provide training for our volunteers, we cannot guarantee or be held liable for their conduct. If there are concerns, the client may request a different volunteer by contacting scarlettsplanusa@gmail.com.
Pet Listings
With the client’s cooperation, we will create a profile for the animal and share it on our website, social media platforms, and with our mailing list. Only information approved by the client will be published. Any additional details shared privately will remain confidential.
Adopting Family Requirements
All adopting families must:
Be located within the United States
Be 18 years of age or older
Complete a phone interview and provide truthful, complete information
Scarlett’s Plan will pre-screen potential adopters before passing them along to the client. The final decision rests with the client, who is encouraged to conduct their own interview(s).
We are not responsible for the conduct, actions, or decisions of adopting families. The adoption agreement is made directly between the client and the adopting family.
Animal Health Information
We will disclose any known health concerns to potential adopters based on what the client shares. However, we cannot verify the accuracy of that information and are not responsible for undisclosed or unknown medical conditions.
No Guarantees
Scarlett’s Plan will make every effort to find a suitable match, but we do not guarantee that an adopting family will be found. We also reserve the right to end the adoption process at any time.
Ending a Partnership
We may discontinue working with any client or adopter at any point, particularly in cases of disrespectful behavior, misrepresentation, or resource constraints. Clients and adopting families may also choose to withdraw from the process at any time.
Service Fees
Our services are offered completely free of charge. Neither clients nor adopting families will be asked to pay any fee to Scarlett’s Plan.
Liability Disclaimer
We are committed to facilitating a safe and compassionate rehoming process. However, Scarlett’s Plan is not responsible for the behavior, decisions, or actions of clients, adopting families, or volunteers.
